The 2017 model is reimagined, it’s the first ‘from the ground-up’ redesign of the CRF450R for eight years and packs a powered-up HRC designed engine with an 11% overall power boost, and stronger torque right through the rev range.
It gets an all-new seventh generation aluminium frame with new chassis geometry, lower centre of gravity and a titanium fuel tank making it lighter and more compact.
The CRF450RX with a pure moto-cross DNA to deal with any special enduro stage and has the confidence-inspiring competence to handle flat-out trails, challenging climbs and tight, tricky sections with ease. The CRF450RX is something truly special, not just for Honda, but for the enduro world to ride and race. It looks different and feels different to the rest of the pack. And, just like the new CRF450R, it is compellingly fast.
The 2017 CRF450RX is identical in almost every area to the 2017 CRF450R, but has some crucial changes to create an uncompromising enduro focus. Both front and rear suspension are less firm, with lighter compression damping and a lower spring rate for the shock. It uses an enduro-standard 18in rear wheel, and sidestand and 8.5L fuel tank are also added for practicality and extended range.
The CRF450RXs PGM-FI ignition timing map produces softer power and torque delivery than the CRF450R to aid traction feel in awkward conditions. Electric start is fitted as standard.
Getting the holeshot can be the difference between winning and losing. The CRF450R has been designed to nail holeshots and maintain that advantage all the way around the track. The powerful engine produces pro-level performance; while a light weight frame, updated suspension settings and slim bodywork help put all that power to the ground. Ultra-light aluminium frame gives the CRF450R sharper handling than ever before. Unicam engine with a higher redline, makes more power and features an Engine Mode Select button that allows the rider to alter power delivery to match riding conditions. The straighter downdraft intake system and exhaust ports have aggressive valve timing to help boost performance across the powerband. The compact dual muffler system is also lightweight and contributes to more centralised mass for quicker handling. For 2018 the electric starter and lithium Ion battery are standard; kick start is removed. The titanium fuel tank helps lower the bike’s centre of mass, again for quicker steering.
Coil spring fork offers fully adjustable rebound and damping to match track conditions. Updated suspension settings to 49mm coil-spring Showa® fork and low-positioned Pro-Link rear system. Bodywork with embedded graphics offers ultimate durability. Premium Dunlop Geomax MX3S motocross tires feature block-in-a-block technology to provide maximum traction in a wide variety of terrain. Quick-adjust clutch perch allows easy cable adjustment. Aluminium Renthal handlebar (971 bend) is rubber-mounted to help reduce rider fatigue and improve comfort.
The CRF450R receives a number of important updates for 2019. Better engine performance is achieved through a new combustion-chamber shape, as well as improved over-rev characteristics through a refined oil-management system. The CRF450R offers class-leading power and handling backed by the kind of quality only Honda provides.
The frame and swingarm have been revised for optimized rigidity and weight reduction, while the braking system has been updated with a lightweight front brake calliper featuring a large-piston design. As a result of the weight-saving measures, the CRF450R is lighter than its predecessor.
For added performance and increased comfort, the 2019 model features new ECU settings, HRC launch control, a Renthal Fatbar® handlebar and adjustable handlebar position. Black rims and redesigned fork protectors are also new.
